Police in Matugga have arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping of a prominent land broker in Buwambo, Wakiso District, in a case that has raised fresh concerns over targeted abductions linked to large cash transactions.

The suspects, identified as Dan Sejjobe, Sirus Nsubuga, and two others yet to be named, are currently detained at Matugga Police Station as investigations continue into the incident.

The victim, Mohammed Kamoga, a resident of Buwambo in Gombe Division, was reportedly abducted on March 17 while returning from a land-related meeting in Kasangati.

Narrating his ordeal, Kamoga said he was attacked along the Matugga–Kasangati road near the Besigye area after his vehicle was rammed, forcing him to stop.

“I was returning from Kasangati when my vehicle was hit. As I stopped, about six men emerged and attacked me,” he said.

According to Kamoga, the assailants overpowered him and bundled him into the trunk of their vehicle, described as a Toyota Harrier bearing registration number UA 422CP. One of the suspects then reportedly drove away with his car.

“They forced me into the boot of their vehicle. They also took control of my car,” he added.

Kamoga said he was driven to an unknown location where his captors covered his head and began demanding money. He revealed that the suspects took Shs35 million that was in his vehicle before demanding an additional Shs15 million from his family to secure his release.

“They covered my head with a cloth and took me to a place I did not know. They took the 35 million shillings I had and demanded more money to make it 50 million,” he said.

The suspects allegedly used Kamoga’s phone to contact his relatives, issuing threats and instructing them not to involve law enforcement.

Kamoga’s brother, Ever Namatovu, said the family acted swiftly upon receiving the distress call, despite threats from the kidnappers.

“When I got the call from my brother saying he had been kidnapped and they were demanding more money, I immediately reported the matter to Matugga Police,” Namatovu said.

He added that the suspects had warned them against contacting authorities, threatening to kill the victim if police were involved.

Police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the arrests and said the suspects would be arraigned in court upon completion of investigations.

“We have four suspects in custody at Matugga Police Station. Investigations are ongoing, and once complete, they will be taken to court,” he said.

Owoyesigyire also urged members of the public to exercise caution when handling large sums of money, particularly after business transactions, and to seek police assistance where necessary.

The incident underscores growing security concerns among business operators in the Kampala metropolitan area, especially those dealing in cash-intensive transactions such as land brokerage. Police say efforts are ongoing to dismantle criminal networks targeting such individuals
