Three South Sudanese Nationals Shot, Injured by Supected Poachers Near Uganda Border

Three South Sudanese nationals are nursing serious injuries after they were shot by suspected armed poachers near the Uganda–South Sudan border.

Police said the victims were traveling on a motorcycle when they were attacked at Imiling in South Sudan, an area bordering Karenga District in northeastern Uganda.

The injured have been identified as Daniel Lopyomoe, Peter Lomeja, and Mark John Lomira. They are currently hospitalized with serious gunshot wounds.

Karamoja Regional Police Spokesperson IP Mike Longole confirmed the incident and said joint security forces responded swiftly following reports of the attack.

“We have launched a manhunt for the suspected poachers responsible for the shooting. Our joint security teams are pursuing leads to ensure the suspects are apprehended,” Longole said.

Security agencies noted that cross-border collaboration between Uganda and neighboring countries has been strengthened to address poaching and other armed criminal activities in the region. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting are ongoing.
