Police in Bushenyi have arrested two individuals allegedly involved in a human trafficking ring that targeted young women with fake job offers, rescuing ten victims in the process.

The territorial police in Bushenyi have arrested two suspects in connection with alleged human trafficking involving young women who were reportedly lured with fraudulent employment promises.

The suspects have been identified as Innocent Agaba, 24, a resident of Nyakashaaru Cell in Rubirizi District, and Getrude Nayebare, 24, a resident of Mpoma II Cell, Kajuzya Parish, Nkungu Sub-county in Kazo District.

According to Acting Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa, the arrests followed intelligence-led operations after reports emerged of suspicious recruitment activities in Ishaka Town.

“Preliminary investigations have so far revealed that the suspects lured young women with fake job offers at ‘Nature’s Way’ in Ishaka Town,” SP Tayebwa said.

“The victims, mostly Senior Four leavers, were confined, closely monitored, and forced to recruit other young women while soliciting money from their relatives.”

Police said the victims were promised employment opportunities but instead found themselves under strict control, with limited freedom of movement.

SP Tayebwa confirmed that ten victims have so far been rescued from the suspected trafficking ring.

“We have successfully rescued ten victims, and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects who could be connected to this criminal network,” he added.

Authorities have cautioned members of the public to exercise vigilance, particularly when responding to job advertisements.

“We strongly caution the public, particularly youths, parents, and guardians, to always verify job offers before committing themselves. Any suspicious recruitment activities should be reported immediately to the nearest police station or local authorities,” SP Tayebwa emphasized.

The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue. Police reiterated their commitment to cracking down on human trafficking and protecting vulnerable young people from exploitation.
