Authorities say the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the two pupils, though the exact cause has not yet been established.

According to SP James Mubi, the Kiira Region Police spokesperson, the altercation occurred in the presence of other pupils who did not intervene or alert teachers.

“Collin sustained fatal injuries during the fight and was pronounced dead shortly after,” Mubi said.

The school’s headteacher, Mr George Waibi, immediately notified police, who responded and took the 14-year-old suspect into custody.

Investigations are ongoing under the guidance of the State Attorney.

SP Mubi described the incident as “a sad and avoidable tragedy” and urged schools to strengthen guidance and counselling programmes for learners.

He also called for the creation of safe and confidential reporting systems to enable pupils to report conflicts or safety concerns before they escalate.

He further cautioned teachers, especially in lower schools, against leaving pupils unattended during lessons.

“Class teachers should always appoint a responsible pupil to monitor the class or leave clear safety instructions when stepping out,” he advised.

Authorities have extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured the public that the case is being handled with utmost seriousness.
