Fresh details have emerged linking the brutal killing of an elderly couple in Entebbe to a suspected family dispute over inherited property.
The victims had recently returned to Uganda after living in Europe for several years.
David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga, 62, were found murdered in the early hours of Monday, July 6, at their home in Lugonjo-Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.
Police say unknown assailants attacked the couple inside their residence.
According to preliminary information, the couple had only recently returned from Europe, where they had lived for an extended period.
Their bodies were discovered inside the house after their shamba boy, Ronald Golooba, reported a suspected aggravated robbery to police.
Responding officers found the couple dead, with the female victim partially undressed.
A sniffer dog brought to the scene lost the scent trail at the main gate, suggesting the attackers exited through that route.
The crime scene was processed and documented by the area Scenes of Crime Officer.
Investigators found stab wounds on the left side below the breast of both victims. CCTV footage retrieved from the home shows the assailants gaining entry by jumping over the perimeter fence.
There were signs of forced entry near the master bedroom, with a shattered window and tampered asbestos roofing.
“The attackers exited through the main gate after completing their mission,” a source familiar with the investigation revealed.
Investigators now believe the killings may be tied to a long-standing dispute over family property.
A source privy to the investigation, who requested anonymity because they are not authorised to speak to the press, said the late David Mutaaga had inherited property from his father—a move that reportedly caused resentment among some family members.
“There’s growing tension over who should take custody of the bodies and manage the deceased’s affairs,” the source said.
“The couple’s children are still abroad, and the property is now at the centre of a family power struggle.”
Police have yet to arrest any suspects but say inquiries are ongoing.
