Police Sniffer Dog Tracks Knife-Wielding Thug Who Broke Into Kawempe Home

Police have arrested a man who broke into a home in Kawempe and stole several items including cash.

In an incident which happened last week in Kisenyi Zone, Kawempe Division, unknown assailants broken into Christine Nampeera’s home at around 1am.

“The victim, Christine Nampera, reported that unknown assailants broke into her house while she was asleep. During the attack,  the gang stole several items including a 32-inch flat screen TV, a Samsung A4 mobile phone, and shs500,000. The attackers were reportedly armed with a knife,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said.

According to police, following the incident, the victim reported the matter to a nearby police station that introduced a sniffer dog to aid in investigations.

“The dog successfully tracked the scent to a nearby room where it identified Jonathan Ssekandi, who was found sleeping inside. Upon being discovered, another suspect identified as Ssulasako Mayor, who was outside the premises, fled the scene.”

Owoyesigyire said a search was carried out in the room leading to recovery of a sharp knife, a pair of sharp scissors, hammer and several bundles of narcotic drugs.

“The suspect, Ssekandi was arrested and is currently in police custody. Efforts are underway to apprehend his accomplice who is currently on the run.”

“The Police assures the public of continued efforts to ensure the safety and security of all residents, and commends the effective response by the canine and CID teams in aiding the investigation.”
