Police Say They are Leaving Investigations into Death of Suspended Commander Open

SSP Julius Ahimbisibwe was last year suspended after being accused of allegedly shooting and injuring his ex-wife.

Police have said they are leaving investigations into the death of their suspended commander, SSP Julius Ahimbisibwe open, despite reports of suicide.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Ahimbisibwe who previously served as the Jinja Road Divisional Police Commander was found dead in a septic tank in his home in Nakitokolo, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district.

The body was found with a rope around the neck.

However, in a statement on Monday afternoon, Police spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke said whereas a case of suspected suicide was registered, they are leaving the investigations into the death wide open.

“Whereas it may be suspected suicide, professionally, we have to establish the exact cause of death through a postmortem,” Rusoke said.

He said police visited the scene of the incident, processed it, and recorded various statements from witnesses including those the deceased was living with.

“The body has been conveyed to the City Mortuary in Mulago as investigations continue.”

By the time of his death, SSP Ahimbisibwe was still serving his suspension after being accused of allegedly shooting and injuring his ex-wife in a domestic violence incident last year.

He faced disciplinary and criminal proceedings that saw him investigated by the Police’s Professional Standards Unit but also remanded to prison over attempted murder charges.

He was however released on bail by court.
