Police have arrested three individuals, including a 50-year-old man, his wife, and her sister, in connection to the brutal robbery and murder of a local businesswoman, Betty Tusingwire  earlier this month.

Tusingwire, who was tragically killed on October 2, 2024, at around 9:00 PM, was shot by unidentified assailants after returning home with her husband.

The attackers, who robbed the couple of shs 3 million, fled the scene before police arrived.

In a coordinated effort between local police and the Flying Squad, the suspects were apprehended in Iganga and initially detained at Buliigo Police Post.

They were later transferred to Kaliro Central Police Station (CPS) for further investigation.

The suspects have been identified as Robert Nfambi, a resident of Nampirika, Suzan Kadondi alias Byogero, a resident of Bugabwe and Nakanda Damalie, a resident of Kasokoso Central in Iganga.

According to police reports, Nfambi is believed to have been the getaway driver in multiple criminal operations, while Kadondi was allegedly responsible for storing the firearm used in the attacks.

The rifle, an AK-47 with serial number 564812008 and 16 rounds of ammunition, was recovered from Nakanda’s residence following a search.

Investigations have revealed that the weapon was smuggled into Uganda from Kenya by Nfambi's brother, Kapere alias Brown of Bulubandi, and a friend named Saidi.

The group is also suspected to have carried out robberies in Iganga Municipality and Namungalwe Town Council, including the most recent robbery in Kaliro Town Council that ended in Tusingwire’s death.

Authorities are continuing with a manhunt for more suspects who may be connected to the criminal activities of the group.

Police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their communities.

ASP Micheal Kasadha, the Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson, assured the public that law enforcement is committed to bringing all culprits to justice.

“Criminal activities are often planned within neighborhoods, and we encourage the community to be observant and report unusual behavior,” Kasadha said .
