Police shoot suspect dead during arrest in Masindi

Police in Hoima have started investigating circumstances under which a suspect was fatally shot during arrest.

The incident happened when Ronald Asiimwe, a resident of Kinenabwa village, Kitamba parish, Bwijanga Subcounty in Masindi District, was shot dead by  Eugenea Ssenono , a police officer  attached to Bwijanga police post during arrest.

According to Julius Hakiza the Albertine police spokesperson , the fatal shooting occurred  during a scuffle when police attempted  to arrest the deceased over a case of assault that was reported at Bwijanga police post.

Hakiza explained  that the incident happened when the  officer, along with one Wilson Musinguzi , a crime preventer, booked out to effect the arrest.

"According to investigation, the deceased tried to resist arrest and in the scuffle, he was shot dead," Hakiza said.

He said the police officer is currently on the run while the crime preventer is under custody and the killer weapon has been recovered and exhibited.

The body has been conveyed to Masindi Hospital mortuary for postmortem, and efforts are ongoing to trace the suspect and have him arrested and prosecuted," Hakiza added.
