Toddler killed by family dog: report

Dr Obuku's family dog broke out of its kennel and violently attacked his son only identified as Raphael who was in the care of a house-help.

Tragedy hit the family of Dr Andrew Obuku on Monday after their toddler son was fatally attacked a family dog, Police report shows.

According to a crime scene investigation report from both Kisubi and Entebbe police stations, Dr Obuku's family dog broke out of its kennel and violently attacked his son only identified as Raphael who was in the care of a house-help.

The incident happened at the family home in Canaan Estate, Mawugulu Cell in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District.

Andrew is the brother of Dr Ekwaru Ebuku, the former president of Uganda Medical Association.

According to Police, Sharon Nuwarinda, the house-help, had placed the child in the veranda as she did her other chores when the dog broke loose from its kneel.

"She saw the dog coming to attack the boy and rushed pick him up, but the dog grabbed him first," the police report said.

"The maid tried to struggle with the dog while making alarm but it overpowered and bit the boys head badly."

Nuwarinda also sustained a dog bite to the leg in the tragic incident in which the dog severed the boy's head.

To shock of the police, she revealed that the dog immediately went back to its kennel after killing the boy.

Police report that the dog has generally been hostile and tried to attack people in the neighborhood, the doctors gate was always locked making it hard for neighbours to rescue the situation.

Police have cautioned residents with dogs to handle them carefully after a juvenile was bitten to death by a family canine.

Police is still carrying out investigations as a postmortem report is conducted at Mulago Hospital.
