A member of the ruling NRM party and contestant for the Bugangaizi East parliamentary seat, Onesmas Twinamasiko, has been remanded to Kibaale prison over charges of assaulting Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja.

Magistrate Nazifah Namayanja of Kibaale Court ordered his remand following allegations that

Twinamasiko assaulted the Prime Minister on July 17, 2025, during a chaotic scene at the NRM offices in Kakumiro District.

The fracas reportedly broke out as party officials announced results from the NRM primaries.

Witnesses say Twinamasiko lost his temper amidst the confusion and allegedly struck Prime Minister Nabbanja in full view of supporters and security personnel.

Twinamasiko has, however, denied all charges and consequently  remanded until September 10, 2025, when his case will return for mention of the case.
