Next Travel, a subsidiary of Next Ticket under Next Media, has partnered with MTN MoMo Uganda and global travel technology company Amadeus to launch Travel by MoMo, a digital flight booking platform that enables Ugandans to search, compare, book and pay for flights directly through the MTN MoMo app.

The service, unveiled on Tuesday at Sheraton Kampala Hotel, is designed to simplify travel planning by combining global airline booking technology with local digital payment solutions.

Developed by Next Travel and powered by Amadeus technology, the platform gives customers access to hundreds of airlines, allowing them to compare fares and travel schedules, select preferred routes and complete payments securely in Uganda shillings using MTN MoMo.

The platform caters for a wide range of travel needs, including business trips, holidays, education, medical travel, pilgrimages and family visits.

Speaking at the launch, Next Travel General Manager Jonathan Martin Kyeyo described the partnership as a demonstration of how collaboration can solve everyday customer challenges.

"This is more than the launch of a new service. It demonstrates what becomes possible when organisations come together with a shared purpose of solving customer challenges through innovation," Kyeyo said.

He thanked MTN MoMo Uganda for partnering with Next Travel, saying the collaboration reflects the value of combining expertise to improve customer experiences.

"We understand that today's traveller wants speed, transparency, convenience and choice. Through this platform, customers can compare airlines, evaluate different travel routes, select schedules that fit their plans and complete their bookings with confidence. The journey now begins from the palm of your hand."

Kyeyo said the solution is built on technology trusted by more than 400 airlines worldwide through Amadeus, giving Ugandan travellers access to international booking standards while addressing local travel needs.

"This is not simply another travel website. It is a world-class digital travel ecosystem built to international standards and tailored for Uganda's market," he said.

MTN MoMo Uganda Managing Director Phrase Lubega said the company developed the solution after engaging customers and identifying common challenges associated with booking international flights.

"Booking a flight has traditionally involved uncertainty, multiple websites or travel agents, and payment challenges. Travel by MoMo removes that anxiety by bringing everything into one trusted platform," Lubega said.

He noted that customers can browse available flights, compare fares displayed in Uganda shillings and pay directly from their MTN MoMo wallets without needing international bank cards or foreign currency.

"Together with Next Travel and Amadeus, we have created a solution that combines global capability with local relevance. Our goal is to make travel planning simpler, faster and more convenient for every customer," he added.

The partnership combines Next Travel's travel management expertise, MTN MoMo's digital payments platform and Amadeus' global travel technology, which provides real-time airline availability, competitive fares and secure booking capabilities.

The partners said the new service is expected to make international travel more accessible to Ugandans while supporting the country's growing digital economy by offering a seamless, secure and locally relevant booking experience.
