Spiro, one of Africa's leading electric mobility companies, has released its inaugural Sustainability Report, outlining the environmental, social and economic impact of its operations while setting ambitious targets to accelerate clean transport across the continent.

The report establishes the company's first Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) baseline, enabling it to track future progress as it expands its electric mobility infrastructure and affordable transport solutions across Africa.

Among the report's key commitments is Spiro's ambition to achieve net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. The company also projects that its expanding electric mobility ecosystem could help avoid approximately 700,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually by 2030.

Spiro said it has completed its first comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory, covering Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions across its operations and value chain.

The company also reported improvements in operational efficiency, saying energy management initiatives at its assembly facilities have reduced energy consumption by an estimated 15 to 25 percent over the past year.

As part of its renewable energy strategy, Spiro is assessing the deployment of 80 to 125 KVA solar systems at selected battery-swapping stations to improve energy resilience and reduce reliance on national electricity grids.

Founder of Spiro and Chairman of Equitane, Gagan Gupta, said sustainability remains central to the company's long-term vision.

"Having grown up in India, I have witnessed firsthand the impact of vehicle emissions on public health and urban environments. At Spiro, our responsibility as founders is not only to scale innovation, but to ensure that the systems we build endure economically, socially and environmentally for generations to come."

Group Chief Executive Officer Anant Badjatya said the report reflects the company's commitment to embedding sustainability into every aspect of its operations.

"This report reflects how far Spiro has come—not only in terms of growth, but in our ability to measure and improve our impact. As we expand across Africa, sustainability will remain a core business driver, shaping how we invest, manufacture, innovate and partner for the long term."

Head of ESG and Sustainability Imtinen Hamlaoui said establishing the company's first comprehensive ESG baseline would improve transparency and accountability.

"By establishing our first comprehensive ESG baseline, including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, we are creating the foundations needed to track progress, set measurable targets and strengthen transparency as Spiro continues to scale across Africa. Sustainability is not a standalone initiative—it is integrated into how we operate, innovate and create long-term value."

The report positions sustainability as a key pillar of Spiro's long-term expansion strategy as demand for electric mobility continues to grow across Africa.
