Sage Buyers, a leading Apple products retailer in Uganda, has introduced a hire purchase arrangement allowing customers to acquire smartphones by paying a 60% deposit upfront and clearing the balance in instalments over four months.
Under the plan, customers can walk away with a device on the same day of purchase after presenting a valid national identification card and making the initial payment. The remaining balance is paid over the agreed period, with applicable interest.
For example, a device priced at shs 3 million would require an upfront payment of shs1.8 million, with the balance settled in instalments over four months.
The company says the arrangement is designed to ease the financial pressure associated with purchasing premium smartphones, particularly within Apple’s product lineup.
“We have always believed that owning a quality device should not be a privilege reserved for the few. This hire purchase plan reflects our commitment to meeting our customers where they are, making it possible for anyone to upgrade today and manage the investment at a pace that works for them. All we need from you is your national ID and 60% down. The rest, we will work out together,” said Dr. Stanley Ssempijja, Team Lead, Sage Buyers.
The retailer says the process has been simplified to reduce barriers commonly associated with credit-based purchases.
Alongside the instalment plan, Sage Buyers has introduced discounts for customers who shop through its mobile application.
The app, available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, features product browsing tools, AI-powered recommendations, cart management, and a hire purchase calculator. Recent updates have also improved login reliability and enhanced display features such as dark mode.
According to the company, app discounts are offered separately from the hire purchase arrangement, allowing customers to benefit from either or both depending on their preferred shopping option.
Customers interested in the hire purchase plan are required to visit a Sage Buyers outlet to initiate the process, while the app and website provide additional digital shopping options and promotional offers.
