Entebbe Airport Records Rise in Passenger Traffic in March

By | April 16, 2025

Entebbe International Airport saw a rise in international passenger traffic in March 2025, handling a total of 178,383 passengers—83,661 arrivals and 94,722 departures an average of 5,754 passengers per day.

This marked an increase of 6,393 passengers compared to the 171,990 recorded in March 2024.

The growth in traffic was partly driven by Uganda’s hosting of international conferences, heightened tourism promotion, and the entry of new air operators like Flynas, which began direct flights between Riyadh and Entebbe in January 2025. Uganda Airlines also sustained operations on its newly launched routes, contributing to the positive trend.

However, the airport’s performance has varied month to month. While March showed improvement, February 2025 saw a dip with 161,095 international passengers, down from 175,630 in February 2024.

January 2025, by contrast, recorded 216,740 passengers the second-highest monthly figure in the airport’s history.

On the cargo side, Entebbe handled 5,852 metric tonnes in March 2025, comprising 1,965 tonnes of imports and 3,887 tonnes of exports.

The higher volume of exports continues to boost Uganda’s foreign exchange earnings and contribute positively to the national economy.

“Despite the month-on-month fluctuations, the overall trend shows that Uganda is steadily becoming a stronger player in the regional aviation sector,” said Vianney Luggya, spokesperson for the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.

“We are seeing the benefits of enhanced connectivity and strategic initiatives to boost tourism and trade.”

Passenger and cargo trends at Entebbe will continue to be closely watched as Uganda seeks to position itself as a regional hub for travel and logistics.
