Uganda Airlines is set to unlock a world of opportunities for Ugandans with the launch of direct flights between Entebbe International Airport and London Gatwick starting May 18, 2025.
This new route will cut travel time from 16 hours to just 9, offering a significant boost to trade, tourism, education, and economic connections between Uganda and the United Kingdom.
The new flight marks a pivotal milestone for Uganda Airlines, expanding its network to include London as its third international destination outside Africa, after Dubai and Mumbai.
The announcement, made by CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki, celebrates the airline’s transition from its establishment phase to a new era of growth.
"The Crane will be flapping its wings into the United Kingdom, and this means connectivity and opportunities for Uganda," Bamuturaki said.
General Edward Katumba Wamala, the minister of works and transport, echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the vital role this new route will play in boosting Uganda's global presence.
He described the launch as a step towards sustainable long-term expansion for Uganda Airlines.
“I am elated and excited to announce the dates for the long-awaited direct flights to London by Uganda Airlines,” said Katumba said.
“This route will not only boost tourism and trade but will also connect Uganda to numerous global opportunities.”
The new route will offer competitive fares starting at $733, making it an attractive option for a wide range of travellers.
Uganda Airlines' Chief Commercial Director, Adedayo Olawuyi, emphasized that this new connection would positively impact multiple sectors, especially trade, tourism, and education.
“The launch of this new route to London will enhance our connections and drive opportunities for both countries,” Olawuyi said.
London will be Uganda Airlines’ 17th global destination, further expanding its route network. Gen Wamala revealed that Uganda Airlines plans to expand its fleet to accommodate growing demand, with plans for more aircraft purchases and leasing options.
“We are committed to expanding our fleet and network. The addition of London to our destinations is a crucial step towards enhancing Uganda’s position on the global map,” Wamala stated.
With future expansions to destinations like China and beyond, Uganda Airlines continues to build bridges for economic growth, fostering increased air connectivity and more direct travel options for Ugandans and international travelers alike.
