Centenary Bank has donated Covid-19 safety gear to schools in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 amongst the students and teachers.

The bank is set to distribute 250 hand washers to 200 schools in different regions across the country.

While addressing media at the handover ceremony, the bank’s Executive Director, Mr. Joseph Balikuddembe, explained that the bank is passionate about this initiative which is intended to prevent the spread COVID-19 in schools as students resume normal learning.

"This afternoon [February 1], we are supporting the area of prevention by donating hand washing basins. We agree with the old adage that prevention is better than cure. We also know it is now a requirement for schools to follow the COVID-19 standard operating procedures put in place by the government," Kasi said.

“I am glad that the education sector is now fully operational given the key role it plays towards the growth and development of the country. However, it is important to note that despite the full reopening of the economy, we remain at risk of contracting Covid-19 if proper care and attention is not given to the way in which we contain the spread,” he explained.

He said they providing 250 schools across the country with hand washers worth Shs 95 million to aid the prevention and risk of spread of Covid-19 amongst the school population by promoting frequent washing of hands.”

The donations come after three weeks of the official reopening of the education sector following a directive by the president of Uganda.

The donation drive starts with the central region today then we will move to the eastern, northern and western regions in the next couple of weeks.
