Housing Finance Bank (HFB) is celebrating a double win at the recent Empower Her Awards, solidifying their position as a champion for gender equality. The bank was recognized in both the "Empower Her" and "Woman of the Future" categories, highlighting their impressive number of women leaders and innovative programs that promote a balanced workplace.

"These accolades affirm the effectiveness of our efforts in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within our organization," said Ms. Peace Piwang, Chief Human Resource Officer at HFB. "We remain committed to continually adopting practices that ensure equality in employment and foster a workplace culture that values and empowers every member of our team."

This recognition isn't HFB's first. They previously secured the Gold Award for Gender Equality from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a testament to their commitment. Remarkably, women make up half of HFB's workforce at all levels, from board and management to staff positions.

However, HFB's impact goes beyond their own walls. As Mr. Micheal Mugabi, Managing Director at Housing Finance Bank, emphasized, "Our success as an institution is intrinsically linked to the empowerment of all our employees, regardless of gender."

HFB's dedication to gender equality extends to the wider Ugandan community through initiatives like:

  • The Zimba Mpola Mpola Loan: This program offers affordable homeownership options specifically designed for women, regardless of income level.
  • Partnership with the European Investment Bank: HFB joined forces with the European Investment Bank to provide €50 million in credit and technical support, helping women-owned businesses in Uganda flourish.

"As Housing Finance Bank, we are committed to developing products and forming partnerships with entities to reduce gender inequality in Uganda," said Mr. Mugabi.

These efforts align perfectly with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goals 5 (Gender Equality), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

By championing equality both internally and through impactful community programs, Housing Finance Bank paves the way for a more equitable and sustainable future, where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their goals.
