The secretary general of National Unity Platform (NUP), Lewis Rubongoya, has dismissed claims as untrue that Barbie Kyagulanyi is a signatory to all the party’s bank accounts.

Barbie is the wife of NUP president, Robert Kyagulanyi famously known as Bobi Wine.

Rubongoya was addressing a message making rounds on social media containing allegations against the NUP president and his family.

Through his X (formerly Twitter) account, Rubongoya strongly refuted the claims and stated that Barbie has never been a signatory to any NUP account.

“No. Mrs. Barbie Kyagulanyi is not and has never been a signatory to any NUP account. The signatories to the single Party account we have are the President, Secretary General and the National Treasurer as is standard practice, and following the NEC Resolution.” Rubongoya stated.

The NUP general secretary went on to deny the claims contained in the viral message, suggesting that NUP president Kyagulanyi receives an unjustifiable Shs100 million monthly salary.

According to Rubongoya, Kyagulanyi has never been paid such an amount of money but rather gets a facilitation allowance for his work.

Without specifying exactly how much Kyagulanyi receives as facilitation, Rubongoya said the amount is lower than what the NUP principal used to earn as a Member of Parliament.

Rubongoya also dismissed allegations of lack of accountability and transparency among the opposition party’s senior leaders.

“NUP regularly files its accountability reports by the law. In addition, we have constantly accounted to Party members and the public by detailing the items we spend on, but most importantly through our activities and acquisitions as a Party,” he said.
