Todwong highlights grievances in voter registration process, emphasising inclusivity

The Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Richard Todwong, has addressed various grievances reported by party members during the ongoing voter registration exercise.

These grievances include allegations that certain individuals are refusing to register others based on criteria such as contesting as independents, being below 18 years of age, or lacking National ID numbers.

Todwong acknowledged reports of individuals manipulating the registration process by removing the names of supporters of perceived opponents.

In a memo dated March 17, 2024, addressed to all NRM district chairpersons, Administrative Secretaries, Registrars, and Zonal ONC Coordinators, Todwong stated, "Every member of the Party is to register in our book without any challenges."

He emphasized the importance of inclusivity within the registration process.

"All members, even those who contested as independent candidates in the past, are free to register," he stated.

Todwong stressed that individuals without National IDs or those who have lost them but are known residents of the village should be allowed to register.

Furthermore, Todwong urged party officials to ensure the integrity of the registration process, emphasizing that no leader should personalize this exercise.

He placed great importance on impartiality, instructing registrars to register every member of the party and those willing to switch allegiance from other parties to NRM, provided they take an oath.
