The Uganda Cranes technical team has unveiled a 28-man squad for the upcoming residential camp ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) set to take place in Kenya from July 12 to August 12, 2024.
The squad, dominated by home-based players from the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, reflects the team’s commitment to building a strong local side for the continental tournament.
Goalkeeping duties will be shared among Joel Mutakubwa (BUL FC), Chrispas Kusiima (Kitara FC), Denis Kiggundu (Vipers SC), and Hannington Ssebalunyo (NEC FC).
The defensive line features familiar names including Gavin Kizito and Lazaro Bwambale from KCCA FC, Herbert Achayi and Gideon Odong from NEC FC, as well as Vipers SC stars Rogers Torach and Hilary Mukundane.
The midfield boasts a mix of youth and experience with NEC FC’s Shamir Kimwero and Enock Ssebagala, alongside KCCA FC’s Joël Sserunjogi and SC Villa’s Patrick Kakande and Kirya Ssenyonjo.
Leading the attack are Emmanuel Anyama, Ivan Ahimbisibwe, and Shafik Nana Kkwiizera from KCCA FC, with support from Vipers SC’s Jude Ssemugabi and SC Villa’s Reagan Mpande.
The tournament, exclusive to players actively competing in their domestic leagues, is seen as a vital platform for showcasing Uganda’s local talent on the continental stage.
The Uganda Cranes will enter camp this week as preparations intensify ahead of the CHAN tournament, where Uganda will look to improve its recent performances and make a deep run in the competition.
