Religious leaders have tasked government to carry out an investigation on drugs neglected by medical personnel and left to expire instead of being given to patients.
The call was made by Archbishop of the church of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali while officiating at the commemoration of 40 years of Joint Medical Stores (JMS).
Ntagali said the church is saddened by the indifference of medical officers who ignore patients’ quest for drugs.
I've heard with sadness that some medicines expire in district hospitals and health centres without being given to patients. Says His Grace Stanley Ntagali."
Ntagali tasked government to wake up from the slumber and interrogate why drugs expire in pharmacies of health facilities without being given out to patients.
"We will continue to appeal to the government and those concerned to make sure that medicine does not expire in hospital stores and where there no medicine government should supply so that people stop to suffer without medicine," Ntagali advised.
The celebration was marked with touring of JMS warehouse.
The Executive Director JMS Dr. Bildard Baguma said Joint medical stores has plans of starting to manufacture drugs.
