The woes for Wankulukuku side Express FC seem to be far from over after the FUFA disciplinary committee handed a four match ban to their captain Michael Birungi.

Following the game in Buhinga, Birungi slammed the referees for awarding a penalty that was later converted to give Tooro United the win against the Red Eagles in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

According to the disciplinary panel Birungi behaved in an unpleasant manner towards the match officials for the day and this warranted the punishment.

“Birungi attacked the match officials at the centre of the field of play immediately after the match at Buhinga stadium .Actions of the Express FC captain tantamount to breach of the FUFA competitions rules,” read the decision by FUFA.

“The Express FC captain is subsequently suspended for four official FUFA competitions matches for unsporting conduct towards match officials.”

The Red Eagles skipper has also been warned against a repeat of similar actions on match officials or else “serious” sanctions will be preferred against him.

He will miss Express’ game against BUL, Nyamityobora and Maroons in the league as well as the encounter against Police FC in the Uganda Cup.

The FUFA disciplinary panel has of late been strict on discipline by both players and coaches.

The panel recently handed four match bans and fines to KCCA, URA and Bright Stars coaches over what they termed as unsporting behavior.

KCCA FC’s Mike Mutebi was banned over his match fixing comments whereas URA’s Sam Ssimbwa was accused of  slamming referees over poor officiation in a game his team was held to a draw by Kirinya Jinja SS.
