Namagabi Secondary School has taken a bold step toward strengthening academic excellence by bringing together Old Boys (OBs) and Old Girls (OGs) to collaborate with the school administration, teachers, and students in improving academic performance and mentorship.
According to the headteacher, Yusuf Kasirye, the initiative seeks to tap into the experience, knowledge, and exposure of former students to inspire current learners to aim higher in their academic journey. He noted that OBs and OGs are a vital part of the school community, as they serve as living examples of what students can achieve in the future.
The meeting, held at the school, attracted alumni from diverse professional backgrounds, including teachers, doctors, engineers, businesspeople, and religious leaders. During the session, the former students urged learners to remain focused on their studies, uphold discipline, and avoid distractions that could hinder their academic progress.
Mr. Kasirye emphasized that academic excellence requires collective effort among students, teachers, parents, and alumni. He revealed that the school plans to introduce additional academic support programs such as career guidance sessions, academic seminars, motivational talks, and scholarship opportunities for bright but underprivileged students.
He added that with the active involvement of OBs and OGs, the school is well-positioned to improve its academic standards and performance in national examinations.
The alumni also pledged their support through mentoring programs, book donations, improvement of school facilities, and support for co-curricular activities that foster holistic education.
They encouraged students to set clear academic goals, work diligently, respect their teachers, and maintain discipline as a foundation for success while avoiding behaviors that could derail their ambitions.
Students who attended the meeting expressed enthusiasm, noting that interacting with former students motivated them to work harder and aspire toward professional careers. Many said they were inspired by the testimonies of alumni who once studied at the school and are now thriving in various fields.
The headteacher further called upon more former students to return and contribute to the growth of their former school. He emphasized that education is a shared responsibility, and alumni engagement plays a crucial role in shaping the future of both students and the nation.
This initiative marks a new chapter for Namagabi Secondary School, strengthening the partnership between the institution and its alumni in promoting academic excellence, discipline, and career development.
