NRM Begins Nominations to Fill Vacant EALA Positions
The NRM Electoral Commission has opened nominations for two East African Legislative Assembly positions that fell vacant after former representatives were elected to Uganda’s Parliament.

 

The NRM Electoral Commission has started the nomination process for by-elections to fill two East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) positions that fell vacant following the election of James Kakoza and Dennis Namara as Members of Parliament in Uganda’s Parliament.

The party opened the expression of interest for its members on Monday, March 24, an exercise that attracted 24 aspirants seeking the party ticket.

The Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly formally notified the Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda that two EALA positions had fallen vacant and requested that new representatives be submitted not later than April 15 to fill the positions.

The NRM has since designated Wednesday, March 25, between 8:00am and 5:00pm as the official nomination day ahead of the internal party process that will determine who carries the party flag in the race to fill the vacant slots.

Some of the members who have expressed interest in the positions include Sheema Municipality Woman MP Rosemary Nyakikongoro, who was defeated in the January 2026 elections, and Ntungamo District Woman MP Joselyn Kamateneti, who also lost in the recently concluded elections, among others.

Nominations are expected to close at 5:00pm, with the commission yet to announce when and how the elections will be conducted.
