Parliamentary diplomacy and bilateral cooperation were at the forefront of discussions when Speaker Anita Among met with South Korea’s Ambassador to Uganda, Park Sung-Soo, who was accompanied by members of the Korean National Assembly.
During the meeting, Speaker Among lauded the Korean government for its strategic development partnership with Uganda, particularly in the health, education, water, and sanitation sectors.
"We encourage you to remain good friends of Uganda. As we strengthen the parliamentary and diplomatic cooperation between the two countries, let us also work together to invest more in the health sector for sustainable development," she said.
On his part, Amb Park proposed that the Ugandan government establish an embassy in the Republic of Korea to deepen diplomatic engagement.
Speaker Among pledged to follow up urgently with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on this recommendation.
Uganda and South Korea have maintained cordial diplomatic relations since 1963, with collaboration spanning multiple sectors of development.
