The Special Forces Command has handed over shs29 million to a driver in Manafwa whose house roof was partly damaged by President Museveni’s chopper.
The roof for Godwin Tasike Aaron’s house at Buwere village, Butiru sub county was partly damaged as President Museveni’s helicopter took off at a nearby playground after visiting Parish Development Model beneficiaries in the area in December 2024.
Consequently, the 45-year-old driver with Manafwa district local government logged a complaint with the district security committee which verified the claims , before escalating the issue to the Special Forces Command headquarters.
On Wednesday, members of the Manafwa security committee together with Tasike met with the Special Forces Command Chief of Staff, Brig Gen Paul Namawa who represented the commander, Maj Gen David Mugisha.
During the meeting it was noted that the roof for Tasike’s house was party destroyed by strong winds off the chopper’s rotor blades but the exterior walls remained intact.
The windows and doors of the house were unaffected .
The meeting agreed that most of the damages caused by wind on the house were secondary but the SFC apologized for the incident.
“It wasn’t intentional for this to happen. Usually the president flies and lands in gazetted areas like Soroti airstrip . However, I apologise on behalf of the team that flies the chopper. It is regrettable,” Brig Namawa said during the meeting.
He applauded district security committee for looking into the matter and taking appropriate steps.
“By sending our team on the ground we wanted to see the extent of the damage and assess what needed to be fixed.Based on the defects assessed, the entire house will be repaired,” Brig Namawa said.
It was agreed that all glasses, including in the windows and doors be replaces, fresh electrical installation works, finishing and painting be done on the house.
He however asked Namawa to seek accommodation elsewhere as the repairing works go on.
Consequently, on Thursday, the shs29 million was handed over by an SFC team to Tasike who was flanked by his wife and family members in Manafwa.
The Manafwa RDC, Patience Webule expressed a sigh of relief for the conclusion of the matter that she said had troubled her and the entire district security committee.
“It is a great relief that it has come to a conclusion. This is an area predominantly NRM and has great impact in their mobilization. It is a plus for them,” Webule said.
She said will ensure house work is done to perfection, noting she will personally supervise the repair works.
Tasike applauded SFC for listening to his plea.
“ I am happy my call has been answered. I didn’t know my house would ever get repaired,” the 45 year old said.
