Despite being on the verge of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has voiced his dissatisfaction with the recent performance of the Uganda Cranes, the country’s national football team.
Lukwago, a passionate football supporter, believes the team’s recent displays have been underwhelming, even as they edge closer to achieving a spot in the prestigious continental tournament.
During an interview on NBS SPORT this morning , Lukwago expressed concern over the Cranes’ lack luster form, suggesting that their performance on the pitch does not match the expectations of their fans or the potential of the team.
“We might be on the brink of qualification, but we must face the truth our team is not performing up to par,” he stated.
According to Lukwago, Uganda’s footballers have shown promise, but inconsistent play and missed opportunities have hampered their progress.
The Uganda Cranes are currently vying for a place in the 2025 AFCON, a significant goal that has the potential to boost national morale and pride.
Yet, despite being close to qualification, critics like Lukwago feel that the team’s tactics and overall strategy require improvement if they hope to make an impact at the tournament.
Lukwago’s critique comes at a time when the Cranes are preparing for a crucial qualifying match against South Africa that could determine their fate.
However Supporters of the Uganda Cranes remain hopeful that the team will find their stride in time for the final qualifying matches, securing a place at the AFCON and proving their critics wrong.
