The ruling NRM party has issued strict guidelines for its members intending to compete in the party primaries as the process of getting flag bearers for local council elections in the newly created seven districts gets underway.
The NRM chairman electoral commission Dr. Tanga Odoi tasked aspirants to ensure they are registered voters in their respective villages and have certified educational documents.
“Expression of interest and picking of nomination forms starts immediately. The staff of the NRM commission will remain in active work because they will be giving forms to aspirants. Aspirants must express interest in writing,” Tanga said.

"We demand of any aspirants, a declaration from the National Electoral Commission that one is a voter because at time we lost seats because someone is not a voter. You must not be a cultural leader, you must pay a non refundable expression of interest fee of Shs2m for Woman MP and Shs 1.5M for District chairperson," he added
Tanga also called upon aspirants to verify their academic credentials because the party is tired of losing petitions in court under related circumstances. “They must come with certified papers.”
“You must not be employed in an organisation wholly owned by government,’ he added.
Some of the new districts expect to elect Local Council chairpersons include; Nabilatuk, Kapelebyong, Kwania, Bugweri, Apac and Mubende
