Police in Jinja District have arrested a primary school teacher from Hamry Nursery and Primary School, Wanyange Hill, over alleged aggravated homosexuality involving an 11-year-old boy.
The suspect, identified as Emmanuel Gaga, 22, who taught English at the school, has been charged under sections 2(1) and 3(1)(2)(a)(e) of the Anti-Homosexuality Act.
The law defines aggravated homosexuality to include acts committed against a child or by a person in authority over the victim.
SP James Mubi, spokesperson for Kiira region, confirmed that a medical examination found the accused to be of sound mind and that he admitted to committing the offence on November 8, 2025.
“The suspect lured the victim to his rented room. Before the incident, the boy reportedly performed household chores, including washing clothes and mopping the offender’s single rented room in Musima village, Wanyange,” SP Mubi said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect has been bringing boys to his room repeatedly, raising suspicion among neighbors about his alleged sexual interest in minors.
SP Mubi emphasized that the regional police command is committed to ensuring the safety of learners in primary and secondary schools, as well as institutions of higher learning.
“School directors, headteachers, and persons in authority must address unwanted sexual behavior seriously to ensure learners feel safe attending school,” he said.
The accused remains in police custody as investigations continue.
