Police in Nakasongola District have recovered 38 cows suspected to have been stolen during a coordinated operation across several villages, following a wave of cattle thefts reported on Thursday.
According to a press statement issued by the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the operations were prompted by multiple reports of cattle theft lodged at Lwampanga Police Station, Migeera Police Station, and Nakasongola Central Police Station.
Working on intelligence leads, the Territorial Police in Nakasongola launched a crackdown in the villages of Kansirye, Katitiza, Kakonde, Kitego, and Sasira all located in Wabinyonyi Sub-county.
As a result, 38 suspected stolen cows were recovered, and ten individuals were arrested in connection with the thefts.
"Out of the ten suspects, three had already sanctioned case files for cattle theft pending court appearance," Twiineamazima said. "The remaining suspects are currently under active investigation."
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activity and cases of livestock theft to local authorities.
The operation is part of a broader initiative to combat livestock theft in central Uganda, a persistent issue that threatens the livelihoods of farmers and communities. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
