BNI Launches Business Academy to Boost Uganda’s Entrepreneurs

Uganda’s entrepreneurial ecosystem is set for a significant boost following the launch of a new business academy by Business Network International, an initiative aimed at equipping business owners with practical skills to grow and sustain their enterprises.

The academy seeks to bridge a persistent knowledge gap among entrepreneurs—particularly in areas such as financial management, record-keeping, and strategic growth. By collaborating with business schools and industry players, BNI Uganda aims to deliver structured and accessible learning to its members and the wider business community.

According to National Director Diana Ninsima Kibuke, the initiative goes beyond classroom instruction. It is designed as a gateway for Ugandan entrepreneurs to tap into international markets through global collaborations and networking opportunities.

“We are looking at expanding market access and increasing revenue growth for business people through international engagements,” she said, underscoring the importance of global exposure in today’s competitive business environment.

What sets the initiative apart is its inclusive approach. Recognizing that many entrepreneurs operate outside formal systems, the academy will also target grassroots business communities. Plans are underway to roll out training sessions in local languages, specifically tailored for traders in major commercial hubs such as Kikubo, Owino, and other upcountry business centres.

This localized strategy aims to ensure that even small-scale traders—who form the backbone of Uganda’s economy—can access and apply essential business knowledge in their day-to-day operations.

Supporting the initiative is Enterprise Uganda, which brings extensive experience in enterprise development and capacity building. Through this partnership, entrepreneurs will receive training in key areas including bookkeeping, financial discipline, and business planning—skills critical for long-term sustainability but often overlooked.
