The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate for Ajuri County in Alebtong District, Fred Jalameso, has demanded that the Electoral Commission (EC) immediately declare him the duly elected Member of Parliament, insisting he won the January 2026 parliamentary race despite disputed results from several polling stations.
Jalameso says tallying conducted on January 17, 2026 showed he garnered 14,331 votes, defeating the incumbent, Denis Hamson Obua of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), who he claims received 12,963 votes.
He alleges that results from 18 polling stations in Awei Sub-county were excluded after inconsistencies were detected between figures announced by presiding officers and those recorded on official declaration forms issued to party agents.
“These results were not coherent with the official declaration forms that were issued to our agents,” Jalameso said.
He further accused election officials of inflating vote counts in favour of the incumbent, alleging that in some polling stations, the number of votes cast exceeded the number of registered voters who turned up, while in others, figures were altered.
“In some polling stations, votes exceeded the number of voters who turned up, while in others, digits were altered to favour the incumbent,” he said.
Jalameso said the Regional Electoral Officer for Northern Uganda intervened and ordered the affected ballot boxes to be transported under police escort for verification.
However, he claims the process raised further concerns after none of the boxes reportedly contained official declaration forms.
“None of these ballot boxes contained a single declaration form. They were all tampered with,” Jalameso stated.
The UPC candidate also said he has formally petitioned the Electoral Commission over the disputed results but has yet to receive a response.
“I should be declared as the newly elected Member of Parliament for Ajuri County. The voters have decided, and there is no provision in the law for a re-election in these polling stations,” Jalameso said, dismissing reports suggesting a rerun in the affected areas.
Under Uganda’s electoral law, disputes arising from parliamentary elections are typically resolved through petitions to the High Court after results are declared.
The Electoral Commission has not yet publicly commented on Jalameso’s claims.
