National Unity Platform (NUP) mobiliser Habib Buwembo has praised the resilience and nationwide reach of the party’s presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, despite what he described as sustained intimidation and obstruction during the campaign period.
Speaking during NBS Barometer on Tuesday, Buwembo said Bobi has defied significant challenges to take his campaign message to most parts of the country.
“Despite the challenges we have encountered, our candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has managed to reach several parts of the country,” he said.
Buwembo described Bobi as the most resilient contender in the presidential race, citing repeated incidents of blockage and intimidation directed at the NUP campaign.
“Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has been the most resilient presidential candidate on the campaign trail. We have been blocked and intimidated several times,” he said.
According to Buwembo, the two time presidential candidate has so far campaigned in 130 out of Uganda’s 146 districts, with only 16 districts yet to be covered ahead of next Thursday’s polls.
“Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has been able to campaign in 130 out of the 146 districts. We are left with 16,” he said.
Buwembo also emphasised the nature of the crowds attending Kyagulanyi’s rallies, arguing that the support has been genuine and grassroots-driven.
“Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has attracted the most organic crowds; no one was shipped in,” he said.
