National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has condemned the arrest of over 180 party supporters during NUP’s ongoing countrywide mobilization activities, calling the actions by security agencies a threat to democratic expression.
Speaking at a rally in Kanyaya, Kawempe North, Kyagulanyi said the arrests contradict the Electoral Commission’s clearance, which allows political actors to freely traverse the country and engage citizens.
He warned that such measures undermine the political environment ahead of future elections.
Despite the arrests, Kyagulanyi reaffirmed NUP’s commitment to peaceful political engagement, urging supporters to remain disciplined and avoid confrontations.
“We shall always stand for peace,” he said. “But I encourage our supporters to stay away from those who cause disorder so we are not dragged into unnecessary clashes.”
At the rally, the NUP leader also emphasized the importance of restoring governance that respects constitutional principles, noting that Uganda can only progress if institutions operate within the law.
NUP continues its nationwide tours as part of a broader mobilization and political outreach strategy.
