Bobi Wine irked by MPs’ double standards as Namuganza falls

The National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has expressed disappointment in the behaviour of the members of parliament during the censure of Lands Minister Persis Namuganza.

Yesterday, MPs voted to censure Namuganza over derogatory remarks and disrespectful conduct. At least 356 MPs were in the House to vote. Of these 348 MPs voted favourably censuring Namuganza, 5 voted against the motion while 3 MPs abstained.

Commenting about the developments, Bobi Wine wondered why MPs appeared in large numbers for such sessions while the same MPs are nowhere to be seen during critical discussions.

He accused the speaker of parliament Anita Among of influencing the parliament into discussions that ended in embarrassing or disciplining her critics.

“Notice that it's a full house whenever Parliament debates 'disciplinary' action against Madam Anita Among's critics. But the MPs will be 'busy' elsewhere when Parliament is debating critical issues. Trust Among to raise a mob when she wants some mob justice against her 'enemies'!” he said.

“Someone please ask her to work on her self-esteem and cease persecuting MPs who disagree with her. A person in her position is expected to have a thick skin, otherwise, if she can't stand the heat, she better get out of that kitchen,” he added.

In reply, the NRM spokesperson Emmanuel Dombo, also agreed with Bobi Wine that such behaviour by MPs should worry all parties alike.

“If we MPs don't turn up for debate of crucial issues, it should worry NUP and NRM alike, as the leading parties in opposition and government, respectively! What do you think we should do to improve the situation? Dombo posed to Bobi Wine.

Speaking after the event, Kazo legislator dan Kimosho said that it was to send a message to everyone that contempt of Parliament or any lawful institution by anybody, will not walk away Scot-free.

"Whether it is a Minister, ED, MP or whoever it is. As a Country, we must build a culture of respecting Institutions!" he said.

It is important to note that Members of the Opposition in the House also voted to censure Namuganza.
