FDC plots to recapture Buganda from NUP

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has expressed confidence that it will recapture central Buganda sub region from its opposition rival, the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the 2026 elections.

Party officials made the pledge at the conclusion of the 2021 post-election review meeting of Kampala sub region at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala.

At least 80% of MPs from Buganda belong to NUP while FDC has only three MPs (Ibrahim Ssemujju, Yusuf Nsibambi and Moses Kabuusu) from the sub region.

FDC president, Patrick Amuriat Oboi congratulated and commended the party leadership in Kampala for flying the party flag high in the last election.

The officials said they are receiving reports from their leaders and hope to rectify their past mistakes to reclaim their past glory in Buganda.

Amuriat assured the leaders that under his leadership, the party has introduced a two-tier mechanism of mobilisation, reaching out and attracting NRM leaders and supporters as well as the undecided voters.

In Kampala, the party leadership met former flag bearers at the level of Parliament and local government as well as grassroots structure leaders from the 5 Divisions / Districts of Rubaga, Makindye, Kawempe, Nakawa and Central.

According to the deputy spokesperson, John Kikonyogo, the mobilisation activity involved reviewing the elections.
