Parents mob school as fire guts Iganga High School for the second time

Hordes of parents have been demanding entry into Iganga High School after a morning fire outbreak destroyed the senior three dormitory. 

Concerned parents rushed to the school this morning after learning of the fire from various source but have been denied entry by the security guards.

Property worth millions of shillings including mattresses, clothes and other personal belongings have been destroyed in the fire thought to have started at around 6am. 

Many of the students were already in class for morning reading time called preps when the fire broke out. 

The Chairperson Parents’ Teacher’s Association Hajji Abubaker Walubi confirmed the fire outbreak.

Angry parents are worried about the latest fire because it is hardly a month since the last one that occurred on June 20, 2022. They are demanding the school institute security measures like CCTV cameras. 

The Busoga East Police Spokesperson Diana Nandawula says that they have started inquiries into the cause of the fire.

Iganga high school has for the past few years been embroiled in wrangles with a section of people who accuse management of forcefully encroaching on land belonging to freedom square. 

The affected dormitory houses over 67 students.
