COVID task force present vaccination of half the population as precondition for lifting lockdown, Museveni to decide
President Museveni will address the country this Saturday, the presidential press secretary has announced.
According to Museveni’s press secretary Linda Nabusayi, the address on the covid-19 situation will be aired on all television and radio stations this Saturday starting 8:00 pm.

Meanwhile, the days allocated for the lockdown end on Thursday, which means that the president will be two days late. This has sparked debate on how the rest of the population should behave as soon as the days elapse.
A source from the State House indicates that the president has not confirmed the day for the address and it is possible he could make the address earlier than Saturday.
“The President will address us on Friday, but if not possible then he will settle for Saturday, but he is yet to decide,” a source revealed.
The address comes after Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Immunisation advised the president together with the COviD-19 task force against lifting lockdown when the days expire this week.
The forum members argued that the country has not achieved the required immunization rate and this could make the pandemic worse should the president open up.
The Chief Epidemiologist at the Covid-19 Taskforce Dr. Monica Musenero has confirmed that government will push forward with the plan of vaccinating half the population before fully opening up.
She however stated that access to vaccines remains a huge challenge. Musenero also remains noncommittal to the lifting of the lockdown.
"We are fighting a dangerous enemy, soon we shall start seeing a steady decline in CoviD-19 deaths. As we come to the end of the 42 days, we shall wait for the guidance of Museveni. The Ministry is working hard towards bringing the vaccines," Musenero said.
