FDC to hold crisis meeting after Museveni appoints Joyce Ssebugwawo to cabinet

Featured

President Museveni's appointment of FDC stalwart,Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwawo as the Minister of State for Information,Communication Technology and National Guidance in the new cabinet has sent cold shivers among her colleagues at Najjanankumbi.

Some analysts believe that it also illustrates the extent to which NRM, and specifically Museveni, has infiltrated the opposition.

In FDC, Ssebugwawo serves as Vice President in charge of Buganda and has been a close confidante of Dr Kizza Besigye, the founding president of the Najjanankumbi based party.

A senior official of FDC told us that they don't expect Ssebugwawo to accept the appointment and if she does, "it will be a betrayal of the highest order."

"Remember that when Patrick Amuriat stepped down as party president to run for president, it is Ssebugwawo who was acting FDC president. This means that she is senior enough to know what is expected of her in this situation. That is to decline the appointment," said the official who requested  for anonymity.

Other sources said the party will hold a meeting this week to discuss the appointment.

Sources said that should the former Rubaga Division mayor accept to serve in cabinet, she risks disciplinary action and probably dismissal from the party she helped found.

Ssebugwawo replaces Peter Ogwang who has been appointed Minister of State, Office of the President (Economic Monitoring) and she will be working under Chris Baryomunsi.

She joined the Buganda government in early 1980s where she worked as a Minister for women, Community Work and Mobilisation.
