A list of the major killings committed by motorcycle riding assailants

On Tuesday morning, former Works and Transport Minister, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala's vehicle was sprayed with bullets that instantly killed his daughter and driver at Kisota- Kulambiro.

The bullets fired by gunmen riding on two motorcycles injured the former Chief of Defence Forces in the UPDF.

The shooting evoked memories dating back nine years since the first shooting involving assailants riding on motorcycles killing prominent Ugandans.

The Nile Post looks at the list of prominent Ugandans shot dead in a similar fashion.

April 20, 2012, Kampala: Sheikh Abdul Karim Sentamu, a prominent Muslim scholar, is gunned down along William Street. Attackers disappear from the scene riding on motorcycles. Sentamu was shot dead as he after  left a mosque along William Street.

June 22, 2012, Kampala: Abubaker Kiweewa is gunned down inside his supermarket in Kyanja by men riding on motorcycles.

December 25, 2014, Mayuge: Abdul Kadir Muwaya, a Shiite leader is gunned down at his home by men riding on motorcycles.

December 28, 2014, Bwebajja: Sheikh Mustafa Bahiga is shot dead at a Mosque along Entebbe Road. His attackers were riding motorcycles. Bahiga  was shot five times; three bullets in the left limb, one on the head and another in the stomach as he went for prayers.

March 30, 2015, Kiwatule: Joan Kagezi, a senior principal state attorney, is gunned down at a fruit stall. Her attackers were riding on motorcycles.  The prosecutor in the July 2010 Lugogo twin blasts was shot as she stopped at a fruit stall while seated in her official vehicle that she occupied with her children.

May 21, 2015, Mbale: Sheikh Abdulrashid Wafula, Imam of Bilal Mosque in Mbale Town is gunned down in front of his gate in Kireka Village, Nakaloke Town Council. Eyewitnesses say the assailants arrived on the scene and left riding on motorcycles.

June 30, 2015, Bweyogerere: Sheikh Ibrahim Hassan Kirya is shot dead by unknown men on a boda boda motor cycle. Kirya had stopped by the roadside to buy some groceries before the unknown assailants opened fire that killed him instantly.

The  gunmen shot at three other people as they fled the scene.

November 26, 2016, Masanafu: Major Muhammad Kiggundu and his bodyguard Fred Mukasa are gunned down by assailants riding on two motorcycles.

March 17, 2017, Kulambiro: Andrew Felix Kaweesi, a senior police officer is gunned down along with his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Mambewa (also called Wambewo). The attackers were riding on two motorcycles.

June 8, 2018, Kawanda: Ibrahim Abiriga, a Member of Parliament for Arua Municipality, is shot dead by assailants riding on motorcycles.

September 8, 2018, Bulenga: Muhammad Kirumira, an outspoken police officer, is killed by armed men riding on motorcycles.

June 1, 2021, Kisaasi: An attempt is made on the life of General Edward Katumba Wamala. His daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver, Haruna Kayondo, are killed in the attack. The General is shot the shoulders. Eyewitnesses say the attackers were riding on motorcycles.
