The President of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin has conveyed his congratulatory message to President Yoweri Museveni upon reelection.

Museveni was last week sworn in for a sixth elective term as Uganda’s president following his January 14 victory against 10 other candidates.

The 76 year old won 58 percent of the votes cast in January’s polls, beating his closest rival and pop star, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine from the National Unity Platform

In his message to Museveni, the Swiss president said he will work with Uganda for development of both countries.

“On behalf of the Swiss Federal Council, I have great pleasure to convey my sincere congratulations on the occasion of your reelection as President of the Republic of Uganda. At the same time, I would like to express my best wishes to you for success in this eminent post, as well as for your personal well-being and the continued prosperity of your country,” Parmelin said in a message sent from Bern, Switzerland.

The Swiss president said that he is confident that the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Switzerland and Uganda will continue to intensify in the future.

The Federal Council (German: Bundesrat, French: Conseil fédéral, Italian: Consiglio federale, Romansh: Cussegl federal) is the seven-member executive council that constitutes the federal government of the Swiss Confederation and serves as the collective head of state and government of Switzerland.

The council meets in the west wing of the Bundeshaus in Bern.
