Why external labour recruitment firms are angry with government

External Labour Recruitment Companies, under their association of Uganda Association of External Recruitment Agencies (UAERA) yesterday resolved to officially close business in the country.

Speaking at a press conference held on Friday afternoon, Baker Akantambira, the Chairperson of UAERA said that although the Ministry of Gender is charged with the regulation of their industry, the association is concerned that the Ministry takes decisions without engaging them as key stakeholders.

Sources within the labour export industry have told The Nile Post that some officials in the ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development are promoting a black market for labour export.

They said that that while government officially suspended labour export due to Covid-19, some unscrupulous individuals in the industry are paying some officials in the ministry to traffic people out of the country.

"Some people are trafficking people through the porous borders with the knowledge of the officials," the sources said.

They government through the COVID 19 task forces has never engaged them on process of resumption of their duties.

These expected to resume operations since the president gave a green light to have their offices  re-opened in Uganda and recently the airport was re-opened.

Sources said that the companies through their association have several times written to the Ministry to have their concerns addressed but it has not acted.
