A French special envoy to South Sudan and Sudan, Jean Michel Dumond has hailed President Salva Kiir on brokering the peace deal between Sudan and various rebel groups.
Last week, the Sudanese transitional government and 13 rebel factions who sat in Juba signed a landmark peace agreement to end decades of fighting.
On Wednesday, Kiir received Dumond who had delivered a congratulatory message from the French President, Emmanuel Macron after the recently signed Juba Peace Agreement.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Deng Dau Deng noted that the French president had extended his congratulatory message to his South Sudanese counterpart, Salva Kiir for successfully mediating the peace pact.
Deng Dau noted that, the meeting also discussed the progress of the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement for South Sudan as well as the Sudanese peace agreement.
“On his part, Emmanuel Macron’s special envoy, Jean-Michel Dumond said that the government of France pledges its full support to the government of South Sudan to implement the peace agreements of South Sudan and Sudan,” Deng Dau said.
The French president’s special envoy also discussed France’s support to help ensure sanctions on South Sudan are lifted through the UN Security Council for smooth implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.
