VP Ssekandi urges NRM mobilisers to focus energies on 2021 elections

The Vice President, Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, has urged all NRM loyalists to centre all their efforts towards the forth coming national presidential and parliamentary elections.

He made the remarks after defeating two other contestants in the party primaries for Bukoto Central in Masaka district.

Ssekandi reiterated that he will also serve those who didn't queue for him, without prejudice and discrimination.

He urged all leaders to listen to their divergent views in order to forge a formidable force in bettering the party in the forthcoming national elections.

"We need to be peaceful at all times since we belong to the same communities as brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, among other kin and kith," Ssekandi said.

According to the official results, Ssekandi emerged winner with 9,580 votes defeating Fredrick Ddembe Luswata who scored 4,889 and Godfrey Sseremba Mayanja who garnered 2,377 votes.

However, Luswata has rejected the poll results saying the election was marred by widespread manipulation of the electoral processes.

The party local leadership and electoral commission were also faulted for failure to ensure fair competition for all candidates.

Ssekandi is seeking his sixth elective five-year term to represent Bukoto Central in parliament where he was first elected as a Constitutional Assembly delegate in 1994.
