Uganda’s Health Ministry PS Lauds Teams Distributing Mosquito Nets

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Diana Atwine has lavished praise on the Village Health Teams distributing mosquito nets.

Diana made the comments on her Facebook page.

“Special credit to all our teams that are making it possible for the delivery of treated mosquito nets to our people in the communities. I urge the public to sleep under the net to be safe from Malaria,” she said.

The Health Ministry is distributing mosquito nets with the exercise now in its second phase.

Uganda is currently involved in a nationwide free mosquito net distribution under the “Under the Net” campaign. Under this campaign, one net is given per two people in a household and over 27 million mosquito nets will be distributed to all countrywide.

The Malaria prevalence has significantly reduced from 42% in 2009 to 19% in 2014 and now to 9.2% in according to the Malaria Indicator Survey, 2018/19.

To further support the COVID fight, the mosquito net campaign sensitization is utilizing COVID taskforces at district and sub-county levels and fund media space delivering integrated malaria and COVID messages.
