Over 30 judicial officers transferred

A total of 37 judicial officers have been transferred to various stations across the country in the latest changes announced by the judiciary.

In a statement by Solomon Muyita, the  Senior Communications Officer for the Judiciary, the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe has appointed High Court registrar, Tom Chemutai as the acting Chief Registrar following the recent elevation of the incumbent, Esta Nambayo as a High Court judge.

Similarly, Jameson Karemani Karemera has been appointed the judiciary’s Public Relations Officer to replace Vincent Emmy Mugabo who was recently appointed a High Court judge.

“Following the appointment of Her Worship Esta Nambayo as Judge of the High Court, the Judicial Service Commission, under Article 147(1) of the Constitution and Regulation 19 of the Judicial Service Commission Regulations 2007/2005 has considered to appoint you as Acting Chief Registrar for the Judiciary pending its next recruitment program from mid-January 2020,”said the message from Katureebe.

Other transfers

The other officers involved in the transfers include Deputy Registrars, Assistant Registrars, Chief Magistrates, Magistrates Grade One and Magistrates Grade Two.

Among the notable ones transferred include Mary Kaitesi who has been a deputy registrar at the family division and has been sent to criminal division of the High Court.

Mary Babirye who has been the Entebbe Chief Magistrate has been transferred to the court of Appeal as an assistant registrar whereas Agnes Alum has been transferred from the Nakawa Chief Magistrats Court to Entebbe in the same position.

Others are Timothy Lumunye, who has been a Personal Assistant to the Principal Judge and has been transferred to Rubaga/ Nateete grade one magistrates court whereas Beatrice Khainza has been moved from City Hall to Nakawa grade one magistrates court.

The outgoing Chief Registrar, Esta Nambayo, however, said the transfers would be effective January 1, 2020 and noted that the changes were effected in a bid to improve service delivery in the courts.

“Some of the transfers are meant to fill the gaps created by the elevation of some Judicial Officers as well as routine transfers aimed at promoting better relations between the Judiciary and stakeholders especially with the JLOS community and district authorities,”Nambayo said.
