Busoga leaders meet over poor education standards

The Kyabazinga of Busoga William Gabula Nadiope IV has expressed concern over the continued poor performance of schools in Busoga sub-region at both primary and secondary levels

The Kyabazinga who was officiating at the Busoga Education Initiative Dinner in Kampala, disclosed that the kingdom is now committed to supporting outstanding students in the sub region to regain its pats glory.

According to the Uganda National Examinations Board statistics, Busoga sub- region recorded the highest number of zero scores in the Primary Leaving Examinations over the last five years.

UNEB analysis indicates that primary schools in six of the 11 districts in Busoga sub-region did not register anybody in first grade.

This is the situation that forced all stakeholders from the sub-region to come up with a strategy on how to revamp the lost education of Busoga.

Officiating the second Busoga Education Initiative dinner held in Kampala on Saturday night, Nadiope IV said as a kingdom they are concerned about the continued poor performance of learners in the area.

He said they are committed to supporting the outstanding students in the region.

Nadiope directed schools in the sub region to embrace the use of technology if they are to compete favorably with other sub regions.

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga and the secretary general of the NRM Justine Lumumba Kasule said there is need to provide the necessary facilities in schools if a conducive learning environment is to be created for the learners.

The chairperson of Busoga Education Initiative Agnes Kadama Kalibbala attributed the poor performance of the sub-region to sugarcane growing in the area and lack of facilities at schools .
