Bebe Cool’s Amber Heart Foundation receives shs1.4bn grant to fight TB

Singer Moses Ssali, also known as Bebe Cool, through his Amber Heart Foundation,a non -profit organization has received a grant of over shs1.4 billion( $400,000) to help in the fight against Tuberculosis in the districts of Kampala, Jinja and Mbarara.

The singer, who was last year appointed as Uganda’s Tuberculosis ambassador recently travelled to Vietnam and on Monday, he announced that he had received a grant to help fight the disease.

“I am happy to inform you that I officially received a grant of close to $400,000 from stop TB at a ceremony that took place in Ho Chi Mihn City, Vietnam,” he announced.

He said the got the money from Stop TB Partnerships an initiative funded by the Government of Canada and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

“This grant is a result of a vigorous application exercise that saw The Amber Heart Foundation triumph over 600 applications that had to be chosen from all over the world. This is a great boost to my charity efforts,” he added.

“While for years I have been undertaking different charity works at my personal expense, it feels great when someone else recognises such efforts and decides to chip in. This is a great boast for our health care system.”

According to statistics, 80,000 Ugandans die of Tuberculosis annually yet the disease is treatable in all government facilities free of charge.

The singer said his Amber Heart Foundation will use the grant to create awareness and mobilization for testing and treatment of TB.

He last year donated shs60 million which was proceeds from his concert towards facilitating of children with heart defects.
