KCCA FC vs Vipers SC

StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo @3pm

It will be a test for their title credentials as defending champions, KCCA FC host table leaders Vipers Sports Club in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League later today Saturday at Lugogo.

Going into the game, Vipers are 14 points clear of 5th placed KCCA FC but the former has played four more games.

The Saturday game will, therefore, be a battle for supremacy between both coaches  Mike Mutebi and Edward Golola but also both teams that have dominated the league for the past seven years and are now seen as the yardstick for Ugandan football.

Speaking ahead of the game, Mike Mutebi said his boys respect but are not scared of the challenge ahead of them as both teams meet.

"Over the last 4 or five seasons, it has been one of the biggest fixtures in the league. It has been one of the most exciting. They have not lost a game and are confident and on our side, we are trying to play catch up but that doesn’t deter us from our objective of playing and winning,”Mutebi said during the pre-match press conference.

“We respect them but we have to focus on our objective of trying to defend the title. We respect but not scared of them.”

Mutebi said the last three games his team has played have given them confidence in terms of scoring and noted they hope it will count on Saturday.

“Given the confidence, they have had in our last 3 engagements we will continue with scoring spree.”

Just like Mutebi, Edward Golola, too admitted that the fixture is one of the biggest in the country currently but said his boys will take it as it comes.

“This is a game that pits the best two teams in the league but we are not in panic mode. We will handle it like any other game we have played. We shall go there with full focus and commitment to make sure we get the result we want,”Golola said.

Head to head

Both teams have met 28 times and KCCA FC has won 10 whereas Vipers has won 11 and drawn 11 times.

The 28 fixtures between these two teams have produced 73 goals, KCCA FC accounting for 38 of these.

The last five meetings at Lugogo for the two teams have seen KCCA FC win once, Vipers twice whereas they have shared spoils twice.

The previous meeting at Lugogo last year ended in a goal each stalemate with Brian Nkuubi opening the score for Vipers, before Mike Mutyaba leveled matters.

A win for KCCA FC will see them close the gap between them and the table leaders to 11points whereas a Viper SC win will see them soar higher on the 16 team log summit.
